Motivation for Cosmetic Procedures

By Alistair Nole

It's more accepted these days that certain signs of aging, such as wrinkles or a loss of elasticity in the skin, are best treated in consultation with a cosmetic surgeon. To get the results that you want, proper treatment will provide the correct course of action to target excessive skin or a loss of collagen in certain parts of the face. Treatment options have grown dramatically in the past ten years and their popularity continues to explode. So what are some of roots of the motivation people have nowadays to get treatments done?

Self esteem is certainly at the heart of many people's decision to seek treatments. Some are looking to improve confidence, decrease self-consciousness. In particular, one might feel their nose is conspicuous or large. Whether it is or not, if a person believes it to be true, this belief can create the reality and cause discomfort and anxiety. For some who work very hard to look their best, whether it be through exercise, diet, clothes, makeup, et cetera, an area that they would like to make just a bit better or a problem or flaw that they can improve upon, can be quite important. This becomes even more important when it is linked to sexuality.

The end result of a change can actually increase a person's sense of improvement in quality of life or work. This can include things like wearing the bathing suits and clothes you want to wear. Or, going to the beach is enjoyable for you, and you want to feel good about your body. Maybe you have a very public job or deal with the public a lot. The decision is affected by all these considerations.

Vanity is one of the top motivators and it can be closely connected with self esteem. A desire to get back a lost positive attribute is not unusual. For example, my lips were always full but now... , my figure was always nice but now.... Having good positive reinforcement over the years and losing that attribute can be like losing one's self-identity.

When the effects of aging that have been creeping along for a while begin to appear, it's very natural to want to slow down or reverse them. In addition, it's equally normal to want to improve or change a feature that you never liked. This can be an issue of maturity-- you thought about it a lot when you were younger and after years of reflection have realized that it definitely is something you would like improved.

Another motivator is health reasons. Many unpleasant postpartum changes to the body that can make any mom depressed. A real, tangible benefit is correcting post-weight loss body changes. Relief of physical factors or symptoms could be needed too. For example, a breast reduction could alleviate chronic recurrent headaches, neck strain, lower back pain, shoulder notching, numbing or tingling in the hands due to nerve stretch-- all of these are associated with mammary hypertrophy--or excessively large, heavy, dense breasts. Almost all of these problems are 100% remedied by a breast reduction procedure.

Dramatic changes in life are another motivating factor. People may feel that their job, or some other significant life stress has aged them, or that they are wearing their divorce on their face. Whatever the reasons, there are clear, safe and affordable options available for anyone looking to make those changes or small corrections.
