Are You Accidentally Sabotaging Your Diet Plan?

By Howard Vasquez

Everybody knows that the most beneficial foods we can eat are whole grains, lean meats along with healthy fats. These would be the food items that should give us the energy and protein we need. They keep our bodies nicely balanced nutritionally but don't stuff us full of empty calories which will later have to be burned off at the gym. Did you already know though that a number of the diet foods you've been consuming may have been hindering your ability to lose weight? They could even be making you gain additional weight! Here are a number of the foods that might be undermining your diet attempts.

Sports Drinks may not be aiding you at all. You've probably been thinking that the sports drink is the best way to help your whole body feel greater after a workout. Most medical doctors concur, however, that if your workout is shorter than ninety minutes, drinking water should be fine. Sports drinks are full of calories and sugar and a lot of other stuff like artificial flavors and colors that will defeat any of your attempts at eating a natural and healthy diet. Try drinking some chocolate milk as a substitute. The sugar inside the chocolate helps your muscles start to heal and the calcium in milk keeps your bones strong.

Skip the protein shakes. So many people assume that consuming a protein shake is a good way to stop cravings when it isn't meal time. The real truth is that when you are already eating a balanced diet all the protein shake does is overload your system with protein. Contrary to popular opinion, protein doesn't get stored as muscle, it gets stored as fat. This means that when you have taken in too much protein during the day your body stores what it doesn't need in your fat, which won't help you lose weight or inches at all.

Pre-packaged deli meat isn't really nutritious at all. You may possibly imagine that a sandwich made of whole wheat bread and pre-packaged lean deli meat makes for a good lunch. The truth is that pre-packaged deli meat is crammed full of preservatives and also about a third of your recommended daily sodium intake. This can be especially bothersome if you are prone to heart disease. Instead of getting the pre-packaged material, you should instead use home cooked poultry or freshly sliced meat from your grocery store's deli counter. Sure these are generally extra expensive options but they are rather a lot healthier for you.

There are a massive amount things that we assume will help us shed pounds like eating a whole wheat bagel each morning but the truth is that eating a bowl of oatmeal sprinkled with cinnamon is a lot better for our health and waist lines. Ask your doctor which elements are the best to eat and then follow the directions you are given. If you are careful about what you eat and therefore are good to your entire body, losing weight probably won't be all that big an issue.
